The temple was built by Hemadri in the Hemadpanthi style with basalt, who was the minister of Yadava King Ramachandra. Tambdi temple is the oldest temple in Goa. You will notice that the interiors and the sides of the temple are adorned with intricate carvings. Such beautiful walls of the interiors and the sides of the temple display the hard work of the skilled workers.

The temple has been seen to have survived a lot of invasions and turmoil because of its remote location which is amidst the deep forest. Fascinating figures of Lord Vishnu and Lord Brahma will be seen alongside Lord Shiva. You will find that every corner of the temple depicts a story. Since the Tambdi Surla temple faces east, therefore, the rays of the rising sun fall on the deity first which is a sight to behold!
